History and Mission of Current Research in Egyptology

Current Research in Egyptology

Current Research in Egyptology (CRE) is a postgraduate conference set up to facilitate research and interaction between graduate students and early career researchers in Egyptology and related fields. The first CRE conference was held in Oxford in 2000, where it welcomed 40 participants from 5 British universities.

Since then, CRE has grown into an international event, held annually at various universities around the world. It provides a friendly and supportive environment for students to present their research, exchange ideas, and network with colleagues from different institutions and backgrounds.

Mission Statement

The primary aim of CRE is to provide a platform for new researchers to present their work to their peers. It encourages interdisciplinary approaches and welcomes contributions from all areas of Egyptology, including archaeology, philology, history, art history, museology, and reception studies.

The conference proceedings are published annually, ensuring that the research presented at CRE reaches a wider audience and contributes to the scholarly record.

Past Conferences

CRE has been hosted by prestigious institutions across the UK and Europe, and now, for the first time, it comes to Asia with CRE 26 in Tokyo.
